Chaplaincy Licensing and Placement Requirements

To serve as a chaplain, individuals must obtain a minister’s license as a Chaplain through a church or recognized ministry organization. The degree we provide does not include a minister’s license, just as we do not automatically ordain students who complete our Bible and Theology degrees.

Most chaplaincy organizations or agencies provide licensing or ordination for those serving with them. If an agency does not provide this, graduates will need to obtain their minister’s license through their local church or another qualified organization.

The role of Warrior Notes is to provide training and accredited degrees. Ordination or ministerial licensing is something each student must pursue independently based on the organization or ministry they choose to serve with.

Requirements for chaplaincy positions vary widely depending on the setting. We recommend you pray and look into the type of chaplaincy you are interested in, and the organizations with which you would like to operate as a chaplain. Take time to reach out to them and review their individual pathway for a position to determine your plan and needed requirements. Warrior Notes is continuing to work with partner agencies to give grads a simple next step into placement. In addition to these partners, there are countless organizations, large and small, that operate in communities and are looking for qualified and skilled individuals like yourself. A few phone calls in your community could lead you to an exceptional opportunity.

  • Hospitals, Hospices, and the military often require a Master’s degree and ministerial licensing at minimum.
  • Many organizations require a minister’s license and CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management) certification. Senior Care Facilities, Jails and Prisions, First Responders, Disastor Response, Trafficing, and many others typically fall in this catagory
  • Some smaller community organizations may allow chaplains to serve with fewer formal requirements, though this is less common.

Because of these differences, students should first determine where they want to serve as a Chaplain, and then ensure they meet the specific requirements of that organization or field.
